Dickinson wins Bismarck Triangular

BISMARCK — The Dickinson High gymnastics team didn’t have an outstanding meet, but its depth proved to be the deciding factor.

The Midgets came away with a three-point win over Bismarck High in the Bismarck Triangular on Tuesday.

“We didn’t win a lot of events, but as a team we had a lot of depth,” Dickinson head coach Kent Van Ells said. “That kept us ahead. It makes all the difference the depth down the line.”

Dickinson scored 143.5, while Bismarck High finished with 139.9. Bismarck Century rounded out the triangular with a 131.075.

The Midgets’ Acacia Fossum placed second in the all-around with 36.6 points. Shaleasa Wariner supplied 35.525 points for fifth. Mikalea Kessel (35.125) and Keana Kudrna (34.35) finished sixth and seventh respectively.

Kessel was the lone winner in an individual event for Dickinson. She tied with Kaylee Keller of Bismarck, who won the all-around, with an 8.975 on the balance beam.

Dickinson is now on a break until traveling to Jamestown on Jan. 6.
