Midgets, Fossum win at Jamestown Invitational

JAMESTOWN — The Dickinson High gymnastics team responded after the Christmas break with a win at the Jamestown Invitational.

The Midgets won with a team score of 145.6 points, while Jamestown came in second with 140.975.

Dickinson took the top three places in the all-around with eighth-grader Acacia Fossum leading the way with 37.175 points. Sophomore Mikaela Kessel came in second (36.05) and senior Shalesa Wariner placed third (35.975).

“We felt pretty good about it,” Dickinson head coach Kent Van Ells said. “It was another win for Acacia in the all-around.”

The Midgets place second in a majority of the events as Fossum’s win on the floor exercise (9.75) was the lone first-place win. She also took runner-up on the uneven bars.

Kessel finished second in the balance beam and floor exercise, while Wariner placed runner up in the vault.

Dickinson got some bumps and bruises at the Jamestown Invitational and Van Ells hopes his team quickly rebounds against Fargo North today at 10 a.m.
