Update: One arrest made in Sidney, Mont., teacher disappearance

Authorities have arrested one man and detained another in connection to the disappearance of Sherry Arnold, a 43-year-old algebra teacher from Sidney, Mont.

In a press conference from the Sidney Law and Justice Center, Sidney Police Chief Frank DiFonzo said a 47-year-old man was arrested in Williston and is believed to be a suspect in Arnold's disappearance. The man, whose name was not released, was in the custody of the Williams County Jail on Friday.

Another man, a 22-year-old whose name also was not released, has been detained in Rapid City, S.D., for questioning.

DiFonzo did not release information regarding where Arnold's body was found, however he said his department had fielded "dozens and dozens" of tips from the public since Arnold disappeared Saturday.

Sidney Public Schools Superintendent Daniel Farr told The Dickinson Press at 10:45 a.m. Friday that Arnold's body had been discovered.

Arnold was last seen alive at 6:30 a.m. Saturday when she left her home for a morning run. The only clue to her disappearance that had been publicly released was that one of her shoes was found along her running route.

Arnold was well known in and had friends and family in the Dickinson area.

Sidney Public Schools canceled today's games and classes will be in session until 2 p.m., according to the district website. The schools also have additional counselors available to students.
