DENVER — In a long list of awards from the 2011 season, ranging from Mountain West Player of the Year to AVCA All-American, Colorado State senior volleyball player Katelyn Steffan added yet another honor to her senior season.

On Tuesday, she was named the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame’s 2011 College Female Athlete of the Year.

Steffan, a Dickinson native who graduated from Colorado State with a degree in family & consumer sciences in December, led the Rams to a 24-6 record in 2011, winning both the Mountain West regular-season and tournament titles while pacing the Rams with 3.59 kills and 4.31 points per set. She is one of seven athletes to be recognized by this year’s Hall of Fame class.

“This one definitely caught me a little off guard,” said Steffan, a 6-foot-4 senior left-side hitter and a 2007 Dickinson High School graduate. “I thought the All-America selection was the top, but this is a great accomplishment and recognition. I’m excited, and I guess I’ll go hang out with Tim Tebow for the day.”

World championship swimmer Missy Franklin (amateur) and Tebow (professional), the Denver Broncos quarterback, were named the 2011 Colorado Athletes of the Year.

Seven athletes will be recognized at the 2012 Colorado Sports Hall of Fame banquet on April 10 at the Denver Marriott City Center Hotel.
