BISMARCK — The Bismarck girls hockey team created a big lead after the second period.
The Blizzard used the nine-goal second period to defeat the Midgets 14-0 on Tuesday.
“You have one off period and it costs us pretty badly,” Dickinson head coach Lauren Hansen said. “The important thing is that the girls pulled it together in the third.”
Sage Barta led Bismarck (12-2) with three goals, while Taylor Erhardt chipped in four assists. Abby Beehler added one goal and three assists.
Dickinson (1-14) has been able to settle things down in the third period most of the season. Hansen said the trick is just bringing that same thought process to the beginning of games.
“I think it shows the girls when they buckle down and work hard, they can compete with these higher level teams,” she said. “I think we just need to get to the point where we’re able to carry that intensity and focus throughout a whole game.”
Kelsey Gillen was in net for the Midgets and stopped 42 shots. Her counterpart Sarah Stoehr, stopped seven shots on goal.
The Midgets host their next opponent Sidney, Mont., at 5:15 on Friday.
