Midgets win 2 at G.F. Multiple, but lose to Belcourt

GRAND FORKS — The Dickinson High wrestling team was victorious in a pair of duals Saturday at the Grand Forks Multiple, but it lost the one it needed to win.

The Midgets fell to Belcourt, 50-21, in a dual that counted toward West Region standings.

“We were focused on Belcourt,” Dickinson coach Bruce Heppner said. “To come out short, it’s a downer, but we’ve got to keep our heads high.”

The Midgets responded by beating Devils Lake 51-15 and edging Fargo South 37-34.

Austin Hutzenbiler, Devin Berger and Alec Lindsey each finished the two-day dual tournament with 5-1 individual records. The Midgets won four of their six duals.

Heppner said the team needed to beat Belcourt to help itself reach the Class A state dual tournament. Now, it will likely need to win its remaining three duals to do that.

The Midgets visit Bismarck Century next Thursday.

“We’ve got to come out and wrestle hard against Century if we want to give ourselves a shot,” Heppner said.
