Fossum, Kessel star at Gym-O’Rama, Midgets take 2nd

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Dickinson High had the majority of individual winners, but Rapid City (S.D.) Central came away with the team victory Saturday at the Gym-O-Rama meet.

Acacia Fossum won the all-around (38.325), and uneven bars (9.600) while Mikaela Kessel took the top spot on the balance beam with a 9.600.

However, the duo came up just short in two other events.

In the floor exercise, Central’s Chelsey Christensen earned a 9.700 to defeat Fossum’s 9.6250 and Kessel’s 9.550. Fossum and Kessel finished second and third, respectively.

Central’s Colette Christensen earned a 9.850 to win the vault, beating Fossum and Central’s McKinsey Kost, who tied for second with 9.575.

Chelsey Christensen and Colette Christianson tied for second in the all-around with 38.075.

Kessel had a 37.175 and Shalesa Wariner finished seventh with a 36.050. Fossum, Kessel and Wariner all had their best all-around scores of the season.

Dickinson did not take a full team to the meet. They were missing four gymnasts with either injuries or other extracurricular commitments.
