4 Blue Hawks win at Minot State Open

MINOT — Four Dickinson State wrestlers continued their winning ways Saturday at the Minot State Open.

Bryden Lazaro (125 pounds), Brad Steele (149), Jesse Hellinger (184) and Jose Lopez (285) all won their weight class championships.

“Those guys have been consistent all year,” DSU head coach Thadd O’Donnell said. “It’s nice to see them continue that.”

Lazaro beat teammate Sergio Martinez by a 7-0 decision for the win. Lopez won by forfeit against teammate Colton Hill.

“We had two new qualifiers Colton Hill and Sergio Martinez,” O’Donnell said. “That was also something we definitely went up there to do.”

Hellinger pinned Montana State-Northern’s Toby Cheff in 6 minutes, 17 seconds. Steele had the toughest title match, but earned a 13-6 decision over MSU-Northern’s James Peterson.

Kylan Zumpf (125) and Jonathan Morales (197) each finished third for the Blue Hawks.

“I thought, from top to bottom, we looked pretty solid,” O’Donnell said.
