No. 1 Century flies by Dickinson

BISMARCK — The Bismarck Century girls basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the state for a reason.

The Patriots caused 20 first-half turnovers en route to an 89-31 win over Dickinson High in a West Region game Thursday.

“Century’s a very good, disciplined team,” Dickinson head coach Dan Pender said. “We just turned the ball over. We were throwing it around and we played nervous for most of the game. We got frustrated and the turnovers kept coming.”

The Midgets (2-9, 1-8 West) weren’t able to get into an offensive rhythm in the first half. Century (11-1, 9-0 West), on the other hand, built a 39-15 halftime lead.

“Give Century’s defense credit, they took us out of everything,” Pender said. “We struggled offensively and it was Century’s defense. They just got after it.”

Dickinson finished with 34 turnovers, while Century made few mistakes with 15 turnovers.

Alexis Jacobs had a game-high 20 points, while Hannah Larson followed with 15 points. Hannah Jeske scored 10 points, but added five rebounds and four steals.

Dickinson’s Ali Moody led her team with nine points and six rebounds. Avery Privratsky followed with six points.

The Midgets have their sights set on hosting West Region opponent Bismarck St. Mary’s at 5:45 p.m. today.

“I think we just have to come out and play hard,” Pender said. “We’ve got to forget about this game tonight, come out and play hard and I think we will.”
