St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary is celebrating Valentine’s Day by selling homemade cookies in Dickinson.

It’s become an annual event because of its prior success. Last year, the auxiliary sold 355 dozen cookies, committee chairwoman Lori Koppinger said.

A variety of cookies will be sold, from cut-out sugar cookies to lemon-drops, molasses and chocolate.

“They’re always homemade and usually somebody’s speciality,” she said.

The cookies will be available for purchase in the hospital auditorium at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Boxes of cookies may be ordered by calling 701-456-4785 by Friday, Feb. 10. The cost is $10 per two-dozen cookies in a box, plus a $5 delivery fee.

All orders must have a phone number, Koppinger said.

The auxiliary is serving coffee and pastries for $3 during the sale.

Auxiliary President Clara Mesling credits the fundraiser’s success to cooperation of the members who do the baking.

All proceeds are used by the auxiliary for hospital requests.

“It can be anything from chairs in a waiting room to special equipment,” she said.

A member for 12 years, Mesling added, “I love it — it’s such a good thing and does so much for people.”

Koppinger, who joined in 2006, welcomes others to join the auxiliary. Opportunities to volunteer are varied, from entry-way greeters to office assistants, she said.
