North Stars use 2nd-period fleury to beat DHS

HAZEN — Despite having a full lineup, defensive lapses in the second period cost the Dickinson High boys hockey team.

HAZEN — Despite having a full lineup, defensive lapses in the second period cost the Dickinson High boys hockey team.

Hazen-Beulah scored three quick goals in the second period en route to a 5-1 win over the Midgets on Tuesday.

“The defensive lapses in the second period really cost us,” Dickinson head coach Tom Folske said. “We relaxed a little bit and they took advantage of it.”

Jared Olson, the North Stars’ leading scorer with 29 points this season, added two goals and an assist. Olson’s goal in the second period set off a chain reaction that lasted 2 minutes, 38 seconds and generated three goals.

“We gave up three right in a row,” Folske said. “We don’t score enough in a game to allow the other team to score in bunches.”

Dickinson’s lone goal of the contest was off Jayden Mink, a deflection. The junior changed the path of one of Austin Krank’s slap shots.

The Midgets travel to Williston on Thursday for their final game of the regular season. From there, Dickinson travels back to Williston for the play-in game in the West Region tournament. The date has not been determined.
