CALDWELL, Idaho — The Dickinson State softball team split its season opening doubleheader Friday.
The Blue Hawks lost their opener to Eastern Oregon 4-1 but bounced back with a 13-hit effort to earn a 6-2 win in the second game.
“The difference was, in the second game, we executed plays that we needed to,” DSU head coach Kristen Fleury said.
In the second game, DSU benefitted from a four-run second inning marked by Jessica Huseby’s two-run sacrifice fly.
Freshman Regan Lawrence took it from there, scattering six hits over the six-inning game.
“She was nervous, but you couldn’t tell one bit,” Fleury said. “She threw a good game and she got the support she needed.”
Vanessa Adame was 2-for-4 and added a RBI.
On the day, Dani Benito was 3-for-7 with an RBI and Taysia Kaufman was 4-for-7 with two runs scored.
“The second game was a better effort,” Fleury said.
DSU (1-1) takes on the College of Idaho at noon and 2 p.m. today and again in a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m. Sunday.
