District 14 girls basketball tournament: Killdeer defeats Dickinson Trinity

HAZEN — Megan Klein had her second double-double of the District 14 girls basketball tournament and Heidi Ottmar was everywhere as Killdeer knocked off Dickinson Trinity in the semifinals Saturday night.

HAZEN — Megan Klein had her second double-double of the District 14 girls basketball tournament and Heidi Ottmar was everywhere as Killdeer knocked off Dickinson Trinity in the semifinals Saturday night.

Klein had 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks as the No. 3 seed Cowboys outpaced No. 2 seed Trinity in the fourth quarter and earned a 58-54 victory at the Bison Sports Arena.

Heidi Ottmar had 15 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals for the Cowboys (9-12).

Nikki Grinsteinner did it all for the Titans (10-9), who had a first-round bye. The senior had 15 points, eight steals and seven rebounds.

Andrea Jirges added 19 points and four steals. Rachel Jahner had 10 points and six rebounds.

The game was tied at 17 at halftime and knotted at 36 at the end of the third quarter.

The teams combined for 49 turnovers (Killdeer 29, Trinity 20).

Killdeer now faces No. 4 seed Hazen, which defeated top-seeded Beulah in another semifinal game, at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the district championship game.

Trinity falls into the region-qualifier game, where it takes on No. 3 seed Richardton-Taylor at 3:30 p.m.

Trinity wasn’t the first upset of the night.

Earlier, No. 4 seed Hazen got ahead early and held on to defeat No. 1 seed Beulah.

Paige Burling had 11 points and Ashton Carter added 10 to lead the Bison (10-11).

Kaycee Link had 12 points to lead the Miners (9-11), who shot 16 of 50 (32 percent) from the field.

Beulah falls into a region-qualifier game, where it takes on No. 6 seed Hebron-Glen Ullin at 5 p.m. Monday.
