Travelers have an easier way to get to and from the airport since Bakken Shuttle Service LLC is operating in the area.
The Dickinson-based company has been providing route services to the northwest part of the state since January and is beginning to service the Dickinson area, said owner Darrell Shaw.
“The route in Dickinson is basically on demand right now,” he said.
However, he wants to have scheduled routes in the area within about two weeks.
“We want to provide people transportation from other areas to the Dickinson Airport,” Shaw said.
BSS has designated pick-up points along a loop that transports customers from out of the area to an airport in Dickinson, Williston, Minot or Bismarck, said Richard Neel, chief operating officer.
“We’ll go from Watford (City) through Killdeer … into Dickinson and from Dickinson to Bismarck and loop back to park the shuttles back in Watford City,” Neel said. “We don’t do inner city shuttles. We’re doing it from outside of the area.”
However, the company is willing to work with companies who have “emergency” transportation needs.
“So if you need something immediate and you have a nonscheduled pickup or drop off to the airports, then we can satisfy that need also,” Shaw said. “We just basically wanted the whole idea to evolve and revolve around the airport transportation.”
He added many find the service convenient.
“The advantage is you don’t have to pester your friends or family for something that’s inconvenient,” Shaw said. “If you drive yourself, you have to leave your car there unattended for however long you’re in and out of town.”
Matthew Remynse, Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport maneger said it’s a benefit to his customers.
“I think they’ll be able to provide a much-needed service into the oil field,” he said. “Overall, I think they’ll be able to provide a good service.”
Passengers of BSS’s buses or vans can use free Wi-Fi and other amenities, Neel said.
“We’re service-oriented, so we’re trying to provide a comfortable and pleasant alternative to driving to the airport,” he added.
The drivers use Twitter to let waiting customers know when they stop for gas, weather conditions, or if they’re running on time.
“You can see where that shuttle is at any given time,” Neel said.
