Coyotes sweep Blue Hawks in softball doubleheader

CALDWELL, Idaho — The College of Idaho swept the Dickinson State softball team in a doubleheader Sunday.

The Coyotes won the opener 7-4 thanks to a three-run sixth inning and ended the second game in five innings, 11-0, after opening up the game with eight runs in the first inning.

In the first game, Kristy Ortiz had a two-run homer in the fourth inning to help DSU pull within a run, 4-3. Vanessa Adame squeezed in Jessica Huseby in the fifth to tie it.

But, Alexis Macias had a two-run single in the sixth and scored on a single by Kristen Haugen to put Idaho ahead for good.

Macias pitched a complete-game three-hitter to beat DSU in the second game. Nikki Shumway went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and a RBI single.
