Dalrymple urges Obama to approve Keystone pipeline

BISMARCK — Gov. Jack Dalrymple said Tuesday he’s pleased that TransCanada Corp. is moving forward to build a portion of the Keystone XL pipeline and urged President Barack Obama to quickly approve a permit to complete the project.

TransCanada announced this week it will begin building a portion of the pipeline from Cushing, Okla., to refineries in Texas. The Gulf Coast project will transport growing supplies of U.S. crude oil to Texas refineries and will serve to reduce price discounts on North Dakota crude oil.

TransCanada officials also announced they will again seek a presidential permit to build the remainder of the cross-border pipeline, which would carry crude oil from Alberta, Canada, and connect to the Gulf Coast project in Cushing.

“The president should do what is right for the nation and approve the cross-border project,” Dalrymple said in a statement. “The Keystone pipeline would improve our nation’s energy security, it would move North Dakota crude to market and it would create thousands of jobs.”
