Numerous blizzard and winter weather warnings and advisories are in effect. More than a foot of snow is possible in some areas.
Interstate 29 is closed between Fargo, N.D., and Watertown, S.D., and I-90 in South Dakota is closed between Murdo and Chamberlain.
The storm Tuesday dropped several inches of snow in much of the two states. The precipitation fell as rain and freezing rain in parts of eastern South Dakota. The National Weather Service says Sioux Falls set a rainfall record for the date with 1.41 inches, breaking the city's 1951 record of 1.19 inches.
Authorities say icy conditions contributed to a train-car crash in Rapid City. No one was hurt.
