HILLSBORO, N.D. (AP) — An Army soldier from Hillsboro has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a woman in September 2010 at a house party near the North Dakota State University campus in Fargo.

Twenty-two-year-old Daniel Rude was court-martialed at Fort Bliss in Texas, where he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment. A spokeswoman tells The Forum newspaper that the Army prosecuted Rude because he was an active-duty soldier.

A jury of nine officers convicted Rude last month on charges of forcible rape and wrongful sexual contact. Rude has been dishonorably discharged from the Army. He will serve his sentence at the federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan.

Rude had been in the Army for nearly five years and was an Iraq veteran.
