Werner, Bismarck High reach 5th-place game

FARGO — Dexter Werner scored 25 points and ripped down 12 rebounds to spark Bismarck to a 71-61 victory Friday against Minot in the consolation semifinals at the Class A state boys basketball tournament at the Bison Sports Arena.

The 6-foot-6 Werner, who has signed at North Dakota State, made 8 of 21 shots from the floor, adding three assists and four blocked shots. Sophomore Taylor Schafer added 22 points for the Demons.

Brandon VanDusen paced Minot with 16 points on 7-for-18 shooting from the floor.

St. Mary’s reaches consolation game

Benjamin Weisbeck scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace Bismarck St. Mary’s to a 66-61 win over West Fargo during the consolation semifinals.

Darius Sparks added 16 points for the Saints, who play Bismarck in the fifth-place game at 10:30 a.m. today at the Fargodome.

Justin Heisler paced the Packers with 15 points. Travis Schock scored 11 points for West Fargo, which finishes its season 12-12.
