Two fires broke out Saturday; a fire 12 miles south of South Heart has been extinguished, but firefighters are still fighting hotspots from a 300-acre grass fire south of Gladstone, officials said.

Gladstone and Taylor area firefighters responded to the grass fire that destroyed about 300 acres of land, Gladstone Fire Chief Joe Wanner said. Wanner said property owner Kurt Martin started the fire that got out of control.

No injuries were reported, but firefighters had multiple hot spots to put out and were on-scene as of 5:30 Saturday night.

The South Heart Fire Department responded to a tin building fire about 12 miles southwest of South Heart Saturday, officials said.

Fire from a burn barrel near the building burned one of the walls. The building was owned by John Privratsky, South Heart Fire Chief Steven Kuntz said.

The fire started at about 1:30 p.m, Kuntz added. Firefighters had the fire extinguished at about 4:30 p.m.
