Letter: Don't let Dickinson-area jealousy turn to greed
Will we be rejoicing or self-destructing? It is through the blessing of the upright that a city is blessed. The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.
Those who take excessive interest and make unjust gain from their neighbors, and who oppress the alien (outsider) and mistreat the fatherless and the widow, cause self-destruction for a city.
Dickinson, now is the time to make decisions about what kind of a city we are going to have. Western North Dakota, once possibly jealous of the higher incomes elsewhere, is seeing that jealousy turn to greed.
Greed causes us to close our ears/eyes to the cries of those who are struggling financially here in Dickinson, and causes us to do things like raise rents to the highest dollar possible.
Money itself is not the root of all evil. The love of money (greed) is a root of all kinds of evil. Money can be used for tremendous good right here in Dickinson to help bless the city.
Great wisdom is needed now in Dickinson in how to utilize wealth and opportunity properly, because when the righteous prosper, the city rejoices. If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.
Again, Dickinson, do we want to be a city that rejoices or self-destructs?
