Dukart qualifies for state tournament in first meet

BISMARCK — The Dickinson track and field team didn’t have to wait long to get its first state qualifier.

Jace Dukart made his presence known quickly qualifying for the state meet in the 200-meter dash in 23.18 seconds at the Western Dakota Association Preseason Meet on Thursday at Bismarck Community Bowl.

“We were really pleased,” Dickinson co-head coach Dave Michaleson said. “It was good to get out in the open air. Jace was probably the most pleasant surprise. We knew he had the ability to do what he did today.”

The Midgets had another sophomore, Levi Jordheim, win the triple jump. Jordheim had a jump of 39-feet-8.75, but Michaelson was told by the assistant coaches that he had barely scratched a 40-foot jump.

Dickinson’s senior Mason Frank placed eighth in the 100- (11.85) and 200-meter dash (24.25). Other seniors to shine in the meet were Dallas Zastoupil placing fifth in the 400-meter dash (53.42), Vlad Kutka and Joseph Sickler went sixth (4:45.37) and seventh (4:52.93), respectively, in the 1600-meter run. Kutka and Sickler were behind Jake Leingang, who ran a field best 4:17.47.

Taren Staudinger was with Frank in the double placing column. The junior placed third in the long (20-.5) and triple jump (38-5).

Dickinson’s final placer at the meet was sophomore Aaron Sayler in the javelin (130).

“That’s a pretty good performance from him and he’ll get better,” he said.
