Get ready for ND June elections

Greetings from your District 36 senator.

By: By George Nodland, The Dickinson Press

Greetings from your District 36 senator.

Tuesday, June 12, is primary election day. We will vote for the top prospective candidate in our political party choice to run in the Nov. 6 fall election. We will also vote to elect all city commissioners, park and school board members on that date.

The last date to file a petition for these positions is April 13. There are at least two to three positions open for election in each of these respective boards.

I have been receiving phone calls and personal contacts concerning interest in some of these boards in the surrounding area of my district.

The trying times of today with the increase in oil activity and related issues have tested these community leaders’ decisions in many areas of concern.

I want to encourage any of you to consider taking out a petition and obtaining the necessary signatures to run for the position you are concerned about. If you want a change of leadership, you need to run for the position!

This United States of America is a free Democracy country which gives each citizen the right to run for a civic position of their choice. We need new and younger people to get involve in our civic government. You are the future of tomorrow.

I have one other item I would like to discuss.

The Bismarck Veteran Center is coming to Dickinson two days a month to offer services. The dates are the first and third Monday of each month.

It is in the Veterans Room at the Stark County Courthouse from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 701-224-9751 for an appointment. They also have an open “meet and greet” time on the third Monday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. with coffee and cookies served.

This is an excellent program for all veterans. I encourage all veterans to check this out. Our country owes our veterans for the sacrifice they have done to preserve our freedoms and the right to run for civic office and the right to vote.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you! Please continue to contact me with your thoughts and concerns.
