Sullivan powers Blue Hawks, errors costly again

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Dickinson State University softball team landed another split in its trip to the Tucson Invitational.

The Blue Hawks dropped a close loss to start the day, but came away with a big win over Mount Marty (S.D.) on Friday.

In the first game, DSU had a tough fourth inning giving up six runs to Dordt (Iowa). The Blue Hawks responded in the home half of the fourth, but fell short 7-6 after committing three errors in the game.

DSU’s Taysia Kaufman went 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Lindsey Sullivan, who hit a home run on Thursday added another and going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Regan Lawrence was tagged with loss in the game, while Sidney Larson tossed a complete game for the Defenders.

For Dordt, Haley Hulsman and Jocelyn Bousema each tallied two RBI. Hulsman went 3-for-4, while Bousema finished 1-for-4.

In the second game, DSU scored four in the third inning and three in the seventh. Kaufman, who started the first game against Dordt, grabbed the win over the Lancers. Brittany Bruns was charged with the loss.

Sullivan continued to swing a hot bat going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Janell LaRont and Tiffany Morgan each went 2-for-4 with a RBI. LaRont also swiped two stolen bases.

For the Lancers, Emily Girard went 2-for-4 with a RBI, while Kristin Loutsch supplied two hits.

The Blue Hawks continue its road trip in Tucson today against Graceland University (Mo.) at 1:30 p.m. and Central College (Iowa) at 3:30 p.m.
