Highway 85 reopens after bridge damaged by truck towing trailer

Transportation officials reopened a portion of a major highway in western North Dakota’s Oil Patch to one-lane traffic on Monday.

Transportation officials reopened a portion of a major highway in western North Dakota’s Oil Patch to one-lane traffic on Monday.

The Long X Bridge along U.S. Highway 85 about 14 miles south of Watford City was struck and damaged by an excavator being hauled on a trailer towed by a truck. The highway was closed Sunday night.

Officials inspected the bridge Monday and determined it was structurally sound.

The bridge will be open to one lane while crews repair it. The work is expected to be done by May.
