Dry, windy conditions fuel grass fires in ND

WILLISTON (AP) — Dry and windy conditions have fueled grass fires in western North Dakota.

WILLISTON (AP) — Dry and windy conditions have fueled grass fires in western North Dakota.

At least three fires were reported in Williams County on Monday.

One fire burned 1,700 hay bales near the Fort Union Trading Post. No one was injured in the fire, which was located 25 miles southwest of Williston.

Williston Rural Fire Department Chief Dave Benth says winds blew the flames away from the fort, built in 1828.

Other fires were reported in the median of the West Bypass and along North Dakota Highway 1804.

A burn ban remains in effect for Williams County and several other counties in western North Dakota.
