Dickinson State wrestling coach Thadd O’Donnell believes Alec Lindsey is just beginning to touch his potential.
That made the South Heart High School senior who wrestled for Dickinson High School a very appealing recruit.
“In college wrestling, you need two components,” O’Donnell said. “You have to love to compete and you have to work hard. I think he’s got those components. If you give him some time and allow him to develop a little bit, I think he’s got a great shot at being a great college wrestler.”
Lindsey signed his letter of intent to wrestle for the Blue Hawks on Wednesday.
He finished his season with a 39-13 record and lost in by a second-period pin to Bismarck High standout sophomore Ryan Blees in the 138-pound Class A state championship match.
O’Donnell said he hopes Lindsey can compete at either the 133- or 141-pound weight class.
Lindsey said wanted to attend school close to home and plans to major in elementary education.
“I’m really excited to get involved with the program,” Lindsey said. “… Basically, it’s just a win for me. I got all the benefits that I was looking for.”
