The lights went out on almost 900 people in Dunn County this morning, officials confirmed.
Two electric transmission line poles a mile west of Dunn Center caught leaked oil from the insulators, heated up and started on fire, said Mark Hanson, Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. spokesman in Bismarck. Residents in Halliday, Killdeer, Dunn Center and Werner lost power at approximately 7:15 a.m. Power was restored to all towns except Killdeer within one hour. Killdeer did not have power as of 10 a.m.
The two poles should be repaired by the end of the day, Hanson said. He could not confirm how much damage was done.
