SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Dickinson State baseball team responded after getting swept on Saturday.
The Blue Hawks split with Briar Cliff University (Iowa) in the second doubleheader on Sunday.
DSU chalked up a 5-3 win in the opening game of the doubleheader. Nick Kearley came away with the win for the Blue Hawks, while Jonathan Mendoza continues to swing a hot bat going 1-for-3, a double and two RBI.
The Blue Hawks (12-12) scored all five runs in the first two innings and then were silenced on the scoreboard.
The Chargers scored their only three runs in the fifth inning. Joseph Ybarra went 1-for-1 with a RBI, while Ryan Etter tallied two hits.
In the second game, Briar Cliff’s bats got going in the second inning and didn’t seem to let up grabbing a 12-5 win. The Chargers (11-12) scored four runs in the second and five runs in the eighth.
Brad Winkelman threw for the win, while Ryan Crossingham was charged with the loss.
Shane Richins had a solid game at the plate for the Chargers going 3-for-5, a double and three RBI. Winkelman helped out his own cause with a two-RBI double.
Zach Griffith led the Blue Hawks offense in the night cap with two hits, one double and three RBI.
