Part of US 85 to close at night for bridge repairs

WATFORD CITY — State transportation officials are closing U.S. Highway 85 about 14 miles south of Watford City during nighttime hours as repairs continue to the Long X Bridge.

The closure between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. takes effect Monday. During daytime hours, one lane of the highway will be open to traffic.

The highway is a major north-south route in the western North Dakota Oil Patch. The bridge was damaged March 18 when it was struck by a truck load that was too high.

The construction is expected to last two weeks, DOT spokeswoman Jamie Olson said, adding that drivers should plan for an extended trip if traveling on Highway 85 toward the bridge.
