Hors d’oeuvres and a selection of fine wines will highlight the ninth annual Dorcas Society wine tasting event Thursday, April 12.

“There’s always new food,” member Sue Moore said.

Guests will be served nine hors d’oeuvres including mushroom turnovers, wonton tacos and crustless quiche. There will be bleu cheese balls, cheesy bacon rolls, sausage kabobs and baklava, which is a Greek pastry.

“People can come hungry — there’s always plenty of food,” member Gail Ebeltoft said.

More than 30 premium wines, provided by Ponderosa Liquors, may be sampled. In addition, there will be a premium wine table for those who purchase a $10 glass. A representative of Republic Liquors will share expertise of the wines.

The Dorcas Society also is selling hors d’oeuvre recipe inserts of previous year’s parties to include in a cookbook it produced several years ago, Moore said.

Proceeds help Dorcas Society with its charitable work for local families.

“We’ve had very unique needs since Christmas — we’ve been helping individuals with gas and lodging expenses while making trips for serious medical issues,” Ebeltoft said.

Another time, Dorcas purchased a bed for a 17-year-old who had major surgery on his back.

Dorcas also distributes Christmas and Easter baskets filled with a complete dinner. It has helped more than 34 families, including more than 80 children since Christmas.

The wine tasting social is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dickinson Elks Lodge. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased from Dorcas members, the Dickinson Elks Lodge and Pondersa Liquors. Tickets are only available in advance.
