BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Bismarck police have arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly shocking his ex-girlfriend with a cattle prod.

Christopher Lee Martin of Bismarck was charged with aggravated assault-domestic violence and a variety of drug offenses.

Bismarck Police Lt. Mike McMerty says the woman told officers Martin came to her home Sunday and claimed she had stolen $500 from him, and they also argued about a jacket.

A criminal complaint says Martin used a cattle prod to shock the woman, leaving marks and causing pain.

Officers said they found a marijuana pipe near the man's vehicle, and a search discovered marijuana, methamphetamine and a meth pipe in the vehicle.

The assault charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
