“We have a very broad sweep of services that we provide — anything really that you need from a development perspective from the planning and the upfront work through the engineering, right into materials testing and inspection,” said Stewart Osgood, DOWL HKM president. “We try to go all the way from the cradle through to the project being completed and turned over to the owner.”
The Anchorage, Alaska-based company has 18 offices in six states.
“We’ve been looking forward to expanding into the Dakotas for some time and with the robust economic activity that you have going on in North Dakota, now seems like a good time for us to venture further to the east,” Osgood said. “We find the upper Midwestern states are culturally a very good fit for us.”
Jennifer Payne, corporate development manager, said the company’s Montana offices have been operating since the 1950s.
“We have a history of not just going in and out of communities, we’re looking at it from a long-view lens and intend to make Dickinson a home well into the future so that’s the plan and that’s our history,” she said.
The company’s resume includes roads, water facilities and airport projects, but DOWL HKM offers a wide range of services, Payne said.
“We do surveying services,” Osgood said. “We provide environmental documentation and permitting. We do planning and landscape architecture. We have a group that does construction materials testing.”
The company also offers geotechnical engineering and project management, he added.
“We’re working with a contractor hand and hand to deliver a project for the owner which typically results in it being done faster and in many cases cheaper than through the normal, conventional process,” Osgood said.
The company can also call in resources from its other locations to meet specific project needs, he said.
“We intend to be in Dickinson for many, many decades to come,” Stewart said.
