Magstadt, Hartman qualify for national meet

SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Dickinson State men’s and women’s track and field continue to improve in the nice weather.

The Blue Hawks qualified sophomore Nathan Magstadt and senior Jennifer Hartman for the NAIA National Championships that take place on May 24 in Marin, Ind. at the Yellowjacket Open on Wednesday.

“It was another beautiful day,” DSU head coach Pete Stanton said. “We were very fortunate that we had another gorgeous day to compete in. We had a lot of great efforts today.”

Magstadt’s event he qualified for the national championship was the 400-meter hurdles, which he won in at 54.11 seconds. The sophomore also won the 110 hurdles (15.01).

Hartman qualified in the high jump, but also won the long jump and took second in the triple jump.

“Getting a couple new additional qualifiers was outstanding,” Stanton said.

Not only did DSU have two more athletes qualify for the national championship, but Hailey Schaper broke her high jump record at 5 feet, 7 inches. The sophomore won the event.

“Schaper was very good today,” Stanton said. “It was very great of her to get that A standard in the high jump as well.”

The Blue Hawks next meet is the Sioux City Relays next Friday in Sioux City, Iowa.
