Letter: Rick Berg knows what being a representative is about

I am impressed with Rick Berg’s work in the U.S. House of Representatives and, specifically, his willingness to listen to the people of North Dakota.

Berg has held town halls, forums and roundtables throughout the state to hear concerns directly from us.

That is what being a representative is about: retuning from the beltway to the people you serve and hearing their concerns. Berg was raised here in Hettinger, and he and his wife, Tracy, still work a family ranch in western North Dakota.

It is reassuring to know that Berg and his family remember their roots and where they grew up. In my opinion, that humble quality is something we should look for in all of our elected representatives.

I am confident he will not forget the people he represents and the good principles he learned living here, when we elect him to the Senate in November, as he has already proven his ability and desire to listen to all North Dakotans.

He has worked closely with former Gov. John Hoeven in North Dakota to balance our state budget numerous times. Now senator, Hoeven, and Berg will make a great team in the Senate to get our country back on track. All over the U.S. people are interested in the success North Dakota is experiencing and are studying how it was accomplished.

The Hoeven and Berg Senate team will have the North Dakota model to make their points to help our country and support North Dakota’s interest.

David Merwin, Hettinger
