Dickinson High qualifies 6 at separate meets

SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Dickinson High track and field team had five new state-qualifying marks Thursday at the Queen City Classic.

SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Dickinson High track and field team had five new state-qualifying marks Thursday at the Queen City Classic.

“We had a pretty darn good day down here,” Schobinger said.

Dickinson’s boys qualified three of its relays for the Class A state meet and won the other without a state-qualifying time. Meanwhile, senior Leslie Beaudoin qualified in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 1 inch.

Brett Braunagel qualified in the 100 meters at 11.16 seconds, helped the 400 and 1,600 relays qualify with times of 41.85 and 3:32.21, respectively.

Mason Frank, Jace Dukart and Mike Cherwinski were on the 400 relay and 800 relay that qualified with a 1:34.13. Taren Staudinger was the anchor on the 800 relay.

Austin Mack, Mike Porter and Joe Sickler joined Braunagel on the 1,600 relay.

Dallas Zastoupil took second in the 800 open with a non-qualifying time of 2:05.88. The 3,200 relay team won their race, but a time was not provided.

“It was a good chance to see different competition,” Schobinger said.

Levorsen qualifies at Karlgaard Invitational

BISMARCK — Dickinson senior Cienna Levorsen qualified for her first Class A state track and field meet Thursday after leaping 9 feet in the pole vault at the Karlgaard Invitational at the Bismarck Community Bowl.

She was one of three Midgets to place at the meet. They entered only a handful of varsity athletes.

Abby Grove took fourth in the girls javelin with a throw of 109 feet, just a feet off a state-qualifying mark. Ali Moody placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 4-9. Aaron Sayler was sixth in the boys javelin with a toss of 136 feet.
