A challenger has made the bid for two Dickinson City Commission seats a race.
Retired Sgt. 1st Class Scott Decker turned in his petition to run for a four-year term. He will face off against commissioners Gene Jackson and Carson Steiner.
“(Dickinson) is a great community, and I want to be part of it,” Decker said. “It’s an exciting time in Dickinson.”
Residents have asked Decker to run, the former National Guard recruiter in southwest North Dakota said. He doesn’t think the commissioners are doing a bad job, but he thinks it is time for “younger blood” to get into the race and excite the younger generation.
“I always wanted to do this, and I think it is the right time,” he said. “I hope to invigorate people to get involved in the community.”
It is good that there is competition, Jackson said.
“It gives people a choice of some variety of personalities and backgrounds,” he said.
Decker said it will be a “spirited race.”
