Dunn County Commissioner Daryl Dukart will be speaking at the Black Hills Bakken Conference May 2 and 3, which will be held at the Spearfish Holiday Inn Convention Center in South Dakota, according to a press release.
The two-day convention will feature seminars on South Dakota’s oil potential and will lay out “the foundation for the Black Hills to become a regional energy hub,” conference organizer Branden Bestgen said.
Dukart will be discussing the impact of oil in Dunn County and the challenges his county has gone through the last five years.
The landowner from Dunn Center will also give a presentation geared toward land and mineral rights owners. He will discuss what surface owners and mineral owners went through when the Bakken oil play started and what they have learned.
“Once you sign a lease, you’d better be satisfied, because you can’t go back,” he said. “Ladies and gentlemen, you’re in the oil business, so get your hands dirty.”
The North Dakota oil boom has created enormous opportunities in business and energy development, which is overflowing into South Dakota, according to the release. Unmanaged growth could create problems with public infrastructure and will strain government services.
