JAMESTOWN — Once Jamestown College’s bats got hot, Dickinson State could do little to stop them during a Dakota Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Saturday.
Allison Roper’s grand slam in the third inning of Game 1 broke open the floodgates and, after that, there was no cooling off the Jimmies’ bats.
Jamestown took the first game 10-2 in six innings and broke open the second game early to secure an 8-4 victory.
The wins gave Jamestown (23-16, 7-3 DAC) a leg up on the Blue Hawks (23-20, 7-3 DAC) with the season winding down and spots in the Association of Independent Institutions postseason tournament still up for grabs.
Roper’s four-run shot came in a five-run third that broke a 1-1 tie.
DSU’s Kristy Ortiz had a solo home run in the sixth inning, but Jamestown’s Kate Johnson blasted a three-run shot to center field to end the game in the bottom of the sixth via the eight-run rule.
The Jimmies didn’t skip a beat in Game 2.
Heather Haegele drove in two runs on a double in the second inning as Jamestown built a 6-1 lead after three innings.
The Jimmies to an 8-1 lead after the sixth inning when Kelsie Jensen hit a two-run homer to left field.
DSU’s Lindsey Sullivan fired back with a three-run, two-out home run in the seventh. But it was too little, too late.
Jessica Lees and D.J. Johnson pitched complete games to pick up the wins for Jamestown.
Regan Lawrence was tagged with the loss in Game 1 and Game 2 starter Taysia Kaufman pitched four innings before being relieved by Tiffany Morgan.
The teams play again today.
