MANDAN — Mason Schiff dismantled Mandan on both ends Saturday.

The Dickinson senior right-handed pitcher pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up four hits, and went 4-for-4 with three runs batted in to lift the Midgets to a 12-0 five-inning victory over the Braves in the West Region game of a doubleheader.

Dickinson’s bats stayed hot as it won the nonconference game 15-6.

“We laughed after the first game,” Dickinson head coach Pete Dobitz said. “We got more hits in that one game than we had the previous six games combined.”

In the first game, the Midgets (4-4, 2-2 West) scored four runs in the first inning and seven in the fourth.

Brett Schweitzer and Alex Huschka also drove in three runs apiece. Schweitzer was 3-for-3 with a double and Huschka was 2-for-3.

James Karey went 2-for-3 with a double and scored three runs.

Schiff struck out two and walked one to pick up the win.

“He pitched well, he kept kids off stride, let his defense worked for us,” Dobitz said. “When we needed a punch-out strikeout, he did that for us too. He had an awesome day at the dish too. … Really, an all-around great day for him.”

Schweitzer pitched four innings in the second game to earn the victory.

In the doubleheader, Dickinson outhit Mandan 28 to 11.

The Midgets return to action next Tuesday when they visit Bismarck St. Mary’s at 3:30 p.m.
