“If there were no lies there would be no politics” is the quote of a famous statesman in our nation’s history. How about extra dirty politics? If our Founding Fathers knew what is taking place today in this country, they would be spinning in their graves.
The opposition to Measure 2 to abolish property taxes here in North Dakota is a classic example. It’s apparently OK for the head of a state agency to spew false information about the measure and do so with taxpayer money and avoid prosecution.
How about a group that touts local control? They even name their group as such when there is no local control and whose members receive millions of dollars of state tax money to operate. They’re like a skunk in a wood pile.
Local control has been the father of all lies throughout this whole campaign. Not only does the state fund 70 percent of Kindergarten through 12th-grade education, but I heard at a county commission meeting years ago that the state also funds most of the money that the counties operate on.
The truth is, Measure 2 is all about keeping your home or business safe from foreclosure by local and state government.
Measure 2 will create economic development by allowing people to keep their money to invest in businesses that create a livelihood for themselves and others as well as creating opportunities for new businesses that would relocate here. The increased economic activity would result in extra tax revenue that would more than replace the lost revenue from property taxes. It would be a win-win situation no matter how you look at it.
All the opposition sees is how they can keep a non-ending supply of money coming their way by creating bigger and bigger government. They’re whole case against Measure 2 is built on emotion and lacks any factual substance which gives them no credibility.
For a better and brighter future for North Dakota, vote yes on Measure 2 on June 12.
