Joseph Robinson waived his right to have a preliminary hearing.
He is accused of asking a person he believed to be younger than 15 years old to have sexual contact with him in February, according to a criminal complaint.
Robinson believed he was communicating with a minor, but it was an undercover officer, Stark County Assistant State’s Attorney Jim Hope said after the meeting.
Unlike recent similar cases, Robinson was not arrested while trying to meet up with minor. Instead, authorities obtained a search warrant for Robinson’s property, including his computer, Hope added.
“Then they met with him at that point,” Hope said. “It wasn’t like other cases where someone drove here from, let’s say Fargo.”
Robinson is out on a $3,000 cash bond, according to court documents.
He faces a Class B felony, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Robinson’s attorney, Thomas Murtha IV, declined comment after the hearing.
