MANDAN — It was another blustery day for the Dickinson Trinity boys golf team.
But the wind didn’t seem to bother them.
The Titans had four golfers in the top 10, including the medalist Lance Pender and runner-up Willy Jahner at the Standing Rock Invitational at Prairie West Golf Course in Mandan.
“It was definitely another unfavorable day for scoring,” Trinity head coach Tyler Reisenauer said. “The guys have all played in that before and they know how to handle this stuff.
Trinity finished the invitational with a 320 defeating runner-up Hazen by 11 strokes (331). Beulah rounded out the top three with a 358.
Lance had a 77 and Jahner scored a 79.
“Lance has been putting a lot of pressure on himself,” Reisenauer said. “We took a different mental approach with him and the results speak for itself.”
The big surprise of the day was Trinity eighth-grader Jaret Lee finishing fifth with an 82 in his first varsity tournament. Nathaniel Knopik placed sixth, shooting an 82.
“Jaret Lee impressed everybody shooting an 82,” Reisenauer said. “It’s pretty good.”
Heart River had two golfers in the top 10 with Joey Wagner (84) and Mitch Krebs (87) finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Jayce Huffman of Beach rounded out the top 10 with an 87.
