MANDAN — The Dickinson High boys golf team had its troubles at Prairie West Golf Course.
The Midgets finished with a team score of 339 on Monday at the Mandan Invitational.
“Prairie West is kind of a tempting course,” Dickinson High head coach Sara Berglund said. “A lot of holes aren’t that extremely long and a lot people want to hit their driver when they don’t need to.”
Tanner Halter led the way for Dickinson with a 76, which put him into fifth place. Berglund said she was impressed with Halter’s course management skills.
“He chipped and putted,” Berglund said. “He was hitting the ball well and he made smart decisions on the course.”
The medalist for the Mandan Invitational was Jake DeForest of Bismarck St. Mary’s, who won in a two-hole playoff against Bismarck Century’s Troy Ressler.
Though Century didn’t win the medalist, the Patriots took a team effort for first place with golfers in the top 10.
The other golfers for the Midgets were Luke Hanel (87), Shay Ridl (87), Carter Donnan (89), Austin Fournier (93) and Alex Turcotte (104).
Dickinson’s next stop is at the Turtle Mountain Invitational at Rolla Municipal Golf Course on Friday.
“It goes day-by-day,” Berglund said. “You might have a good day and today was kind of our off day.”
