Hawks win last Dakota Athletic Conference Tourney

MAYVILLE — The bats picked up and the offense never slowed down on Sunday at Portland Field.

The Dickinson State softball put together solid hitting performances defeating Jamestown College 15-6 and 11-2 to win the Dakota Athletic Conference Tournament.

In the opening game, DSU scored three runs in the first inning and held at 10-5 lead going into the seventh. That’s when the Blue Hawks tacked on five insurance runs.

Taysia Kaufman toed the pitching circle for DSU throwing six innings, while Lindsey Sullivan led the offense going 4-for-5 with a double, home run and six RBIs. Janell LaRont added three hits, two RBIs and scored four runs, followed by Jessica Huseby with four hits, two doubles, a triple and two RBIs.

Allison Roper led the Jimmies with three hits and scoring two runs. Celene Eccles had one hit, but drove in three runs.

In the second game, the Blue Hawks struck for five runs in the first and four runs in the second inning.

Regan Lawrence pitched five innings, allowing two runs and striking out five. The freshman pitcher added two more hits and scored two runs in the second game.

The Blue Hawks were powered by Huseby going 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and scoring two runs. Vanessa Adame added two hits including a home run, two RBIs, while Sullivan supplied three hits, a double and two RBIs.

The two teams meet again in the Association of Independent Institutions Tournament at 9 a.m. on Thursday in Columbus, Ga.
