Midgets add qualifiers at Duane Carlson Invite

MINOT — The Dickinson boys track team had a solid showing Tuesday, posting three new state qualifiers at the Duane Carlson Invitational.

The Midgets’ 3,200-meter relay team posted a state-best time and Jace Dukart had qualifying runs in the 200 open and 400 relay.

Austin Mack, Dallas Zastoupil, Joseph Sickler and Mike Porter had a time of 8 minutes, 10.5 seconds in the 3,200 relay.

“We know that’s going to be a good little event for us at the state track meet,” Dickinson co-head coach Jay Schobinger said.

All four finished in the top five in the 800. Sickler won in 2:03.66, falling 1.92 seconds short of qualifying for state. Porter was second, Mack fourth and Zastoupil fifth.

Dukart ran a 23.03 into the wind to win the 200 and helped the 400 relay that included Mason Frank, Michael Cherwinski and Taren Staudinger to a runner-up, state-qualifying time of 45.12. The same group took third in the 1,600 relay in 3:38.97.

Dickinson’s Jackson Binstock and Vlad Kutka finished first and second, respectively, in the 3,200 with times of 10:05.9 and 10:07.88, respectively.

Levi Jordheim took second in the long jump (19 feet, 7 inches) and third in the high jump (5-6).

The Midgets host the Coca-Cola Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Badlands Activities Center.
