WAHPETON, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Health Department officials will be investigating a small petroleum spill in the Bois de Sioux River on Wahpeton's south side.
KFGO radio reports that the spill was discovered Tuesday night when someone reported a strong fuel odor coming from the river.
Richland County Emergency Manager Brett Lambrecht says he and city crews are trying to pinpoint the source of the contamination, which he says appears to be diesel fuel.
The fuel slick is about two blocks long. Because the water level on the Bois de Sioux is low, there is little current and the contaminated material is not moving.
