There were no injuries in a two-car garage fire at 222 First St. SW on Monday afternoon. The damage estimate is not yet determined nor is the cause of the blaze, Dickinson Fire Department Chief Robert Sivak said from the scene at about 6 p.m. Monday.

“All indications are that it started on the exterior in a greenhouse-type structure,” he said, adding firefighters believe the fire spread to the garage through the windows.

The garage, greenhouse and a 1967 Camero were destroyed. There was radiant heat damage to a neighbor’s house, and a minivan was damaged, he said.

There were several explosions of common household products and other items — likely tires, Sivak said.

Temperatures were in the mid-80 degrees Monday and Sivak said the department made certain firefighters were readily taken off the front line and cooled down. Emergency medical staff was on-scene and Dickinson Rural Fire Department was on standby.

“Everything is a total loss,” Sivak said of the garage.

Sivak said the owner is Annette Kilwein. Messages left at the residence were not immediately returned.
