Hazen wins Region 5 girls golf tournament

HAZEN — The Hazen girls golf team won and won everything Thursday at the Region 5 tournament.

HAZEN — The Hazen girls golf team won and won everything Thursday at the Region 5 tournament.

The Bison took first in the team scores, paced by medalist Jinny Miller who won Senior Athlete of the Year. Hazen coach Kathy Berglund was even named Region 5 Coach of the Year.

Miller shot an 81 as the Bison scored a 361, while Bowman County (389) and Beulah (405) also qualified as teams for the Class B state tournament, which is May 29 and 30 at CrossRoads Golf Course in Carrington.

Hazen’s Mary Silverthorn (86), Rachael Hansana (96) and Braeton Traiser (98) helped the Bison to the team win. For Bowman County, Karly Palczewski took third (93), Kayla Palczewski (94) was fourth and Mariah Lockert (98) was 10th.

Heart River’s Jada Mattson (95) was fifth and Mary Hlebechuk (97) took eighth.
