A man sought shelter from the rain in a hot tub Saturday morning, and that’s where the Dickinson Police Department found him, authorities said.

DPD received a call that someone had broken into Keller Hearth ’N Home Products in Dickinson at approximately 7 a.m., Sgt. Pete Sellie said.

The glass of the front door was smashed and officers found the man passed out in one of the empty display spas. There were no other damages, Sellie said.

“We don’t believe he was out to steal anything or that any other businesses were harmed,” he said. “It looks like he was just drunk and getting in from the rain. Luckily, there was no water in it. Otherwise he may have passed away in there.”

DPD took the man into custody. The man’s name was not immediately released and the incident is under investigation.
